Janet Jackson Is To Become a Qatari Wifey

Janet is 46 and kicking ass!

She's about to marry a super rich Qatari businessman, Wissam Al Mana, who owns whole bunch of luxury brands, Saks Fifth Avenue in Dubai is among them.

I've noticed that Janet has been dressing very conservatively lately - long sleeves, no cleavage, covered up to her neck. But no matter what she wears and no matter how old she is, she always looks so spunky, young and adorable.

Wedding is scheduled for 2013 and will cost an estimate of $24 Mill.

I hope they put this iconic image of the bride on their wedding invitations:

Future groom is about 10 years older than his blushing bride.  You rob that cradle, girl!

Looks like Janet is straight-up wearing abaya

Remember the 80's and 90's Janet?  She was so stinking cute in Poetic Justice with 2Pac.

My first name ain't baby, it's Janet, Mrs. Al Mana if you're nasty

Mauzan

Her Excellency Rafia Helal Bid Drai is a woman behind design house Mauzan that specializes in abayas.

I'm not quite sure what "Excellency" title represents in this part of the world, but she's neither an ambassador, nor a general or an admiral.

Anyway, she seems to be a strong, independent woman, who was raised in a family of a local aristocracy and "didn't have a mother", whatever that means.
Design house that she owns sells very expensive abayas and dresses with all kinds of bells and whistles for those who are into sort of things.

Back in December 2011 when Robin Thicke's wife Paula Patton was doing promo tour for Mission Impossible: Zzzz, Harper Bazar Arabia styled her for the local audience (heavy make up + abaya).  Abayas they chose was Mauzan's:

Kim Kardashian in Dubai

Spanx favorite customer and Ray J co-star landed in Dubai few days back.

Kim Kardashian arrived in Dubai to promote charity she feels deeply about. Oh, wait, she doesn't do charity.

Ok, then she's here to bring awareness to region's social issues. Oops, she wouldn't know and care about that one either.

Well, perhaps she came to Dubai to enrich and educate people back home about Emirate's rich culture and traditions? Power of dubious celebrity used for the worthy cause, at least?

No?

Kim Kardashian is in Dubai to promote opening of milkshake store.

Here's what she did while here:

1.  Reminded us why she is famous in the first place:

2.  Demurely posed like a true lady:

3. Got upstaged by her own 50+ years old mother:

4. Did a lot of this:

5. Covered up for a change:

6.  Took a pic with a local gentleman:

I'm sure she did a lot of other things that brought her some handsome appearance fees, but i don't really care.
Do you?

Fatma Rubaya

Another day, another abaya designer.
Frankly, I'm afraid I'm not a very good fashion journalist (FYI: I'm not a journalist at all) - I can't find any info on Fatma Rubaya brand.

Is it an eponymous brand, named after female designer Fatma Rubaya?  Is it just a brand name that bears no significance to any actual person?  Is it a marketing ploy?

Who is Fatma Rubaya?

If you know, please enlighten me.

Anyway, looks like Fatma Rubaya abayas are borrowing heavily from the west.  Wait, it's not a bad thing.

But look, they do bear striking resemblance to Halston-type floor length dresses from the 1970-ies.  Additionally, marketing genius behind "Fatma Rubaya" brand chose to model it on decidedly european looking models and without prerequisite head scarves.

But in Ray Ban Aviators.

That way folks at Fatma Rubaya don't restrict themselves to an arabic clientele only, but have a broader appeal to an expat community as well.  Get it?

Would you wear it as a dress?  I would love to have the very first one, with white front, embroidered (or is it printed?) with whimsical black design

Take a look:
