Things I Covet

I think Things I Covet/Wish List/Object of Desire is by far the most interesting aspect of personal blogging,  because is allows the blogger exercise their voyeristic tendencies without being too personal.  On the other hand, it lets the readers to gain some insight into bloggers life.
So here's my wish list for now:

Things I Covet

1.  Peace in the Middle East

Seriously.
I wish this region peace and prosperity.  I want to go to Syria and visit ancient Allepo and Damascus, experience famous Syrian hospitality and perhaps, buy a piece of gorgeous damascene furniture.  I want to go to Beirut and enjoy it's sites without being constantly security-checked and re-checked at most entrances.  Is it too much to ask?

2. Barbour Quilted Jacket

This is probably temporarily insanity, but since i came back from France a week ago, i've been obsessed with Barbour jackets.  It was nice and cool 15 Celsius and parisians looked tre chic in their black scarves, black boots and black quilted Barbour jackets.  Girls had those ugly doctor-bag looking satchels hanging from their shoulders, some in brown distressed leather, some black and some (horror!) neon colored.

Satchels i don't care for at all, but quilted Barbour jackets rock my boat!

3. Pastel Colored Jeans

Is one ever too old for pink colored jeans?  Is there cut off date to apply to the pastel-loving club?
Am I past my baby pink-jeans wearing exparation date?
Oh, the conundrum!

Plus, I'd like to purchase an ass and legs like Christina Millian's

Things I Covet

These are the things I covet now:

1. Nude colored bag.

I am a big fan of Louis Vuitton bags. I know I will catch a lot of flack for saying that; somehow LV has become a badge of wannabes, chavs (a new world i learned in Dubai) and generally not a cool thing to profess your love to.

But I don't give a flying fig. These bags are exceptionally well made, very sturdy and reliable, will last you a life time and your grand daughters will be delighted to pry them out of your liver-spotted hands on your deathbed.

After all, if they were good enough for Audrey and Katharine, they are good enough for me.

I have some, but lately I've been coveting Brea in Blanc Corail. I blame Aiisha Ramadan - she blogged about owing Alma in that color and I've been love struck ever since.

2. Chanel Midnight Red Nail Colour

Recently I've stopped going to my neighborhood nail salon.

Reason?

Grossness of some clients hoofs.

Ladies, if you have a fungus situation, don't go to a pedicurist. Go to a freaking dermatologist!!!

I had enough of looking at animal claws and worrying whether the tools are properly sanitized, so I quit going there.
I do my own nails now and even though I told my girlfriends I'm not spending $$ on Chanel polishes ever again, I'm afraid I lied.

When I see my fave "Midnight Red" I go weak at the knees.

Ditto "Vamp".

"Midnight Red" has been around since dinosaurs roamed the Earth and "Vamp" since Kate Moss dated Johnny Depp. Which is also eons ago.

3. Rue Cler, Paris

There, I said it. There is no "frenchier" place on earth for me than Rue Cler.

I miss it's fruit and vegetable stands, it's cafes with their hurried efficient waiters. I miss it's pretty french girls (btw, don't be duped by all the books about "French Diet" - save yourself some money and listen to me: they are so skinny because of the steady diet of cigarettes and espresso, sans food). I even miss it's old ladies in stockings, sensible shoes and Hermes scarves.

Mostly, though, I miss it's Artisan Boulangerie, unassuming but so very popular, stellar and in-expensive bakery.  While Lenotre, that's just around the corner is generally empty on any given day, Artisan Boulangerie is pretty much sold out by mid-day.

P.S. none of the Rue Cler pix are mine - last time we were in Paris we forgot our camera on the bench in the Metro.  Pix are nicked from the interwebz.

Dareen Hakim

I came across these bags on the Facebook and immideately started to covet them.

Clearly, Lebanese-born designer is inspired by an arabic calligraphy and arabic flair for all things shiny and bright.

Which, in this case, works nicely if the rest of your outfit is rather restricted and sleek.

Inscriptions on the medallion of the clutch are about love, happiness, blah-blah-blah.
Who cares, bags are cute!

You can purchase these clutches on www.dareenhakim.com, they are rather affordable - from $295.00 to about $350.00

Things I Covet

Yesterday i saw a girl wearing Blue Butterfly necklace from Sweet Alhambra collection by Van Cleef & Arpels.

I immediately got a severe case of "I Want What She Has-itis"! It looks adoooorable on the neck, not too big and not too dainty; the colour is fabulous and the shape is kinda funky.
Besides, it's by the legendary european jewelry maker - who wouldn't want it!

Sweet Alhambra Collection is below, and basically consists of 3 major shapes - heart, butterfly and Alhambra clover - all done up in white and yellow gold.

There are also ID bracelets and oval pendants (they're called "medals" by VCA)that can be engraved.
All the pieces from this collection are available in adult and child sizes.
Cute!

Things I Covet

I like word "covet". It's such an unusual, beautiful and wonderful word. I'm glad Sarah Jessica Parker used it for her perfume; how very sophisticated of her!

But, to the point.
When i lived in Dallas, my daily uniform was "7 seven" jeans and American Apparel T-shirt. I mean, i lived in these things and the only thing i used to covet was some new shade of T-shirt.

In Dubai you don't just put on jeans and T-shirt and consider yourself done. In Dubai you have to make an effort - albeit minimal, but still an effort.

Firstly, it's too hot for jeans, especially right now.
Secondly, there is just too many pretty dresses, flowing tops and adorable pants screaming at you from the every corner store at the malls, so you have no choice, but give in.
And thirdly, it's just the way Dubai is. It's keen on appearances.

As i said earlier, girls here have major fever for designer bags. I mean, you walk into Loius Vuitton store, and there is a credit card/cash wielding mob out there, vying for the sales clerk's attention.
And i'm not even exaggerating.

Anyhow, right now i'm coveting LV Monogram Vernis Alma in Orange Sunset. This bag has been around for a while now, and still looks good. It seems to be practical, sturdy (duh, it's LV) and deliciously looking.

Another thing on my list is this fire-cracking hot Pom-Pom Sandals by Tory Burch, also in tangerine.

Aren't they kick-ass?
Perfect for tanned footsies.

And, BTW, i don't know what's up with me and tangerine color.

What do you covet?
